I studied abroad in London, and lived there for 4 months. I had the time of my life and I can't wait to go back. That's actually where my fiance and I chose to have our honeymoon.
There is so much to do-- and it doesn't have to be all tourist-related. One of the best things to do is to act like a local. Going to a real pub, riding on the tube reading a newspaper, and enjoying the beautiful parks.
My favorite places to visit in London were the markets. The markets have anything and everything-- lots of handmade goods-- and little trinkets you can't get anywhere else. Artwork, scarves, clothing. I have some really cool articles of clothing-- that people always want to know where I got them-- and they're all from markets.
You can visit the Covent Garden Market, Camden Town Market, Portobello Road Market... Check out others on this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_markets
Also I used yahoo.co.uk to research places to see-- and go to your local AAA and pick up a travelers guide-- to research places to go.
-- and museums are free-- what can be better than free knowledge and entertainment!

London is a fantastic City to visit. It is the most diverse city in the world and has something for everyone. As Samuel Pepys once said "A man who is tired of London is tired of life".
Stay away from tourist traps, buy an AZ and explore. Go to Columbia Road flower market, have bagels in Brick Lane, eat Southern Indian food on Drummond Street, swim under the stars at the Oasis, take a walk on Hampstead Heath, visit the largest Hindu temple outside of India (in Neasden),have falafal in Portobello Market,go to the Freud museum the list is endless.
Whatever you decide to do enjoy. The cheapest way to travel around the city is to buy an Oyster card.

I loved London! I went last year before departing on a cruise, and stayed there for 2 days. Went to see Stonehenge, Windsor Castle one day, then the other day explored all of London proper. So much history there, but it helps that i'm into England's Royalty. My sister just got back from there though and she was there for 10 days staying with a friend. She didn't like London at all, said the people were snobby, and everything was too expensive. So I guess it all depends on your mind set, and if you like the history of the place, rather than the shopping. :) Have fun if you decide to go...don't miss Westminster Abbey or Tower of London! :)

I LOVE LONDON! Hi, Here's what I always pass along!
Wow...you're in for a treat! Wear good walking shoes because London is a superb walking city. Bring a good map of the city and begin. Be a happy tourist and first hop on one of the major red double decker tour buses which afford you a perfect overview of London and you can "hop on and off" as often as you please...some for two days! I love www.theoriginaltour.com ! Highlights (see www.londonwalks.com): National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, Tate Modern Museum, London Eye, Covent Gardens (great shops n restaurants), St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, see a play!, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Tower of London.
Know London has many beautiful parks which can be your oasis when needing a rest. Kensington Gardens in one of the world's wealthiest areas - See Princess Di's Kensington Palace and shop Kensington High St. and wander up Church St. for boutiques and such. Nearby: Royal Albert Hall, Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum. Hyde Park connects to Kensington Gardens. Explore Chelsea for boutiques as well. St. James Park - beautiful, sole restaurant inside. Green Park - high tea at the Ritz, Fortnum & Mason, Picadilly Circus (think Times Square). Shopping streets: Oxford, Bond, check for weekly markets...BUY "TIMEOUT LONDON" weekly magazine. Boat trip on the Thames - a must. Don't forget - you can take the EUROSTAR Chunnel train to Brussels or Paris for day trips (2.5 hrs +/- each way!) Also, day trips to Brighton and to Bath (Stonehenge nearby) are well worth the train ride. Hope this helps. Have a fantastic time! :)

Yes, we have been to London England and we loved it. We took a guided bus tour through the centre and were most impressed with the narrater who obviously was very proud of his city. The next morning we traced the tourtrip by walking the same distance and saw how powerfull this city and nation must have been once upon a time with all its statutes, and impressive buildings. London should be a must on any European trip.

Its a wonderful place to visit, you get to see soo many people from a different walk of life and culture.....i think the science museum is a blast...they have simulator rides there and imax...and if you like old buildings, well london is known for its old buildings and legendary tales like sherlock holmes and jack the ripper...not to mention the queens palace and castle in winsor...
on the downside, london can be quite expensive, and public transport is not the best(heres hoping they will improve by 2012, the year they host the olympics).
