My SUV makes what sounds like electricity clicking sounds when I am at a stop with my brakes on, but only in Drive. The sound isn't very loud, but is noticeable with the window rolled down at a drive-thru, but not when windows closed. It also doesn't do it in reverse.
It doesn't affect my driving ability, but it does concern me. My SUV has 108K miles on it and has had a tune up at 98K and shows no codes.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance

Check your oil. Something is rubbing against something else. Clicking is the first clue. Also,....are your brakes old? Check them, too!

Usually, when you hear a ticking sound in idle, it probably is a lifter or tappet. Does it happen when the vehicle is cold as well as warm? Or only when the engine has warmed up? Is your oil pressure reading O.K.? At the very least you may be able to dump a bottle of engine treatment into your crank case like those from BG chemicals or Lucas Oil. Both are very good products. With your mileage, it probably wouldn't hurt to dump in a bottle every oil change.

Put it in park with the parking brake on and the engine running when you arrive home with the engine hot. Raise the hood and being careful not to put your hands and arms into the engine compartment, listen for that noise you describe. It could be the sound of the rotating belts, valve tapping noise or fuel injector clicking noises.

The clicking is from a relay somewhere, might be the A/C compressor turning on/off, does the engine sound change any?
Best way to check and be sure is a visit to the mechanic, let them drive it and check it out...
