I have an 03 chevy tracker the service engine light is on, i took it to the local auto-zone to have it checked and was told the engine was not running at normal temp.
But it is not over heating. Could it be a false reading?

ENGINE NOT RUNNING @ NORMAL TEMP. COULD MEAN THAT IT IS RUNNING SLIGHTLY HOTTER BUT NOT ENOUGH TO OVERHEAT, OR IT COULD MEAN THAT IT IS RUNNING COOLER THAN NORMAL. CHECK TEMP. SWITCH THAT CONTROLS COOLING FAN. ALSO CHECK COOLING FAN RELAY, IF IT IS STUCK IN THE ENGAGED POSITION THEN THE ENGINE COOLING FAN WILL RUN CONTINUOUSLY. THUS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OPERATE @ BELOW NORMAL OPERATING TEMP.

It could be a false reading.... sometimes the computers at places such as Auto Zone and your local mechanic do nopt have the software updates that your GM dealership would have.

It is also possible that something with your cooling system is malfunctioning and that is why you are reading normal on your temp gauge but the engine light is comming on.

I highly reccomend that you take it to a dealership service department to have it looked at.
If the engine light is on steady, you can drive it there, if your engine light is blinking you are best off to have it towed.

Depending on when you bought the car and how many miles are on it, you may still have some warranty left. If you do, whatever is wrong may be covered.

It could be a false reading , other reason could have been if you made repairs and the battery was disconnected.
Also , if you drove your vehicle with a loose gas cap , that will also send a signal for a check engine light.
Take it to a GM dealer and let them reset it.
good luck.
