Honey, I do parole packages for Texas prisoners and believe me, they are NOT rehabilitated down there. The state of Texas is a cruel taskmaster and punishment is the norm. If people knew the truth about what the so-called guards and administration did down there, it would shake the very foundations of criminal justice. Gitmo is a cakewalk, I assure you.

Hey! just some food for thought:
They are in prison due to poor choices. Choices is what it all comes down to. Prison is not a free ride on society any more.
How much more do we as a society have to take?before we change out of victim mode and into a more proactive mode.
This world isnt going to change if we continue to grab our ankles and do nothing . We've been doing that too long . Thats why this world is in the crisis it is now.
It all comes down to this: Everyone makes choices. They are in prison to let allow them to realize their choice was not the appropriate choice. There are always more choices out there. No matter what. There is always more than one path to walk.
Let's change the conciousness of the whole by each of us being the best we can be : What we are meant to be. Choices -what do you choose?

If our prisons would put the prisoners to work 8 hours a day...laying roads, picking cotton, baling hay, or raising the food that they eat; no TV, no radio,...just a bunk, three square meals a day, and a shower..... maybe, our prisons would not be overflowing..... and maybe there would be more thought given before breaking the law.

I disagree.
What if this prisoner has no family? How do you diffrentiate? This person should have thought about his/her family before committing the act. If they didn't, then how do you expect them to care about their family when they get out. They will just blow their money elsewhere.
The money they get paid with is our tax dollars. This is WORSE than welfare. At least those people did not commit a crime.
If you pay them, then many people will try to get in jail. In the wintertime, because it's cold... many homeless people purposely commit crimes to go to jail because there they get free food, shelter and ammenities. If you pay them ontop, many people will jsut commit crimes to get money.
If you think about it, they get free food, clothing and shelter. Really, working at a minimum wage job... you'd get about the same.
Criminals should not be paid at all... at least not with my tax dollars.

The new trend is to make prisoners pay for their incarceration. Coming to a prison near you.

what are you trying to say? I couldnt understand your question.. but it made me think of the following:
training prisioners for real life.. that would help them rehabilitate.. give them a job inside the prision and pay them with prision dollars.. that can buy them priviledges or other stuff. I like it.. if they go to the library and get their highschool diploma they can get paid more.. things like that! what do you think? do I have something here?
