I have wished for this since I was introduced to the show. I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Roddenberry and for his idealistic vision for humanity. There is no discrimination, everyone's needs are met and therefore there is no poverty. Society has evolved so that it exists to enrich the lives of all people. When people ask about the show and why I love it so much, I always tell them that Star Trek is what happens when humanity gets its act together. Not so much the technologies, but the attitudes and philosophies.
Since someone was able to come up with the idea (many times over), and since the idea is valued by so many, perhaps it is a real possibility. If not for us, then for those in the future.

Am I wishing for one? No. I think there are aspects of the 23rd/24th century lifestyle that are portayed in the shows and movies that would be neat to live in.

I've always said that family life should take its cues from Star Trek: The most important guy gets to sit in the coolest chair in front of a big screen and tell everyone else what to do. (Just kidding, of course).

My favorite part of the society is that it has evolved beyond the need for money. I hate what money (and the lust for it) does to people. I don't know how they make that transition, but in Star Trek times, that's how they live. That's what I'd like to see happen.

Heck yes!

I've managed to be a trekkie for 5 years (ever since I was introduced to it), without actually having tv. Since then, I've realized that though achieving a Star Trek reality would be impossible, we ought to absorb some aspects of the ST universe into our daily lives. For instance, reduce and then eliminate descrimination based on gender, race, orientation, age, etc., or universal health care. These are things that I value, and thankfully they are portrayed in pop culture through Star Trek.

Plus it would be really cool to pilot a warp ship. =D
