Everyone seems to be willing to accept any tyrany in the name of democracy so I am starting to wonder if democracy is all it is cracked up to be. I mean lots of people really like Castro and the UAE is a pretty happy monarchy. It seems more like Bush is becoming the face of tyrany these days. I think globally people are more afraid of him then they ever were of Sadam. Anyone else losing faith in Democracy?

Umm, actually I am Canadian, my father is American and I have also lived in Germany and Afghanistan so I have a pretty good idea what the rest of the world is like.

Well I do vote, even when I am overseas. I would live to hear from some non-Americans on this one jsut for some different prospectives.

The reason for you feeling this way is because this is a failing democracy. When Bush says to you "If this was a dictatorship it would be a heck of a lot easier...Just so long as I'm the dictator". BELIEVE HIM. They do not want a democracy because you have to answerer to the people and he feels that he does not need to. That's all you have to know about this guy. One by one they will try a take away as many rights and liberty that we have until we are powerless as citizens. It is happening right in front of every-ones face and half the people don't care, and that is why they will secede.

They dont

People like Castro? Ever talk to any Cuban refugees? I have. Also the UAE is a very small nation. If it is like Kuwait everyone is supported by the oil they export, that Westerners run and maintain.

To answer your question. A bad President. The reason is in four years you have a chance to vote him or her out. Jimmy Carter was a case in point. With a "good" dictator, sure he may be benevolent while he's in power - but what do you get after him? A despotic megalomaniac for the rest of his or her life, then another after them. Remember power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely! I think Thomas Jefferson said that.

As for all the Bush beating. Remember he was elected by the rules of law of our Constitution. Just because Hollywierd, Europeans and Dan Blather don't like him don't mean a thing to about half if not more Americans. Bush is trying to set up a working democracy in the Middle East, a strategy in combating the war on terror. Give them an example besides a succession of one despotic dictator after another. It's tough job, one that Clinton wouldn't think of doing, but GWB is trying. Sadly, I believe we are going to lose this war because the division Hollywierd and others are putting this nation through.

At this time we have a bad dictator, with the repuglicans in charge of both house's and a repuglican president he has set himself up as a dictator. A bad one at that. He is also a bad president as his term will end and somebody will have to straighten out his mess. The good thing about democracy is we do have the chance to change it. Hopefully people will become wise to the repuglican hate machine and vote the bastards out.

You probably don't even vote so why does it matter. Appearently you would be happy to have no rights at all. The great thing about democracy is that everyone's vote counts and is equal. You don't like something you can VOTE to have it changed. Don't just start bitching when you actually have the power to do something about it.

A bad president.

People really "like" Castro because if they didn't, they would be executed.

And I don't anyone actually "fears" Bush, they laugh at him.

Scottythecomic is right-you really have to see what's out there in the world and you'll appreciate America more. If you were in China, you would not even be able to ASK that question.

A bad President. At least theyll be out of office in 8 years max. Dictators can turn more evil and stay in office until they diiieee.

I think America's just gotta hang in there, and as soon as Bush it out of office and a new person is in, they will make some big changes and fix what he has screwed up.

That is a very good question. I think I would prefer the democracy because at least the people have a say.

a good dictator hands down. people with so much freedom are so annoying all they do is disenfranchise other people's freedoms. i do not promote totalitarianism but too much democracy doesnt work either. during world war 2, america was blessed to have a good dictator in the person of franklin
roosevelt.

I am losing faith in inconsiderate and disrespectful Americans. If you truly think you have it bad here, try visiting ANY other country. People who have never been out of the U.S. have no idea what the rest of the world is living like.

A dictator, at least that way you can say, well I didn't pick him. Everybody who cast a vote for a bad present is personally accountable. I love democracy.
