Not one blessed thing. Every program they institute puts money in their pockets and the pockets of their cronies while ignoring the poor. The War on Poverty actually raised poverty rates in the 40 years it's been instituted. Raising minimum wages puts poor, unskilled people on welfare rolls. Welfare bureaucracy costs upwards of $4 for every $1 that goes to an actual poor person. The NEA steals money from children. The only jobs democrats create are government jobs for people who only want more once they have fed at the public trough and then call us greedy when we complain about it.

Well this question will not receive any answers because the democraps haven't done anything but tell them lies. Did the democraps do anything about Civil Rights in the 60's? NOPE - the democraps fought the civil rights movement.
Jackson - Why is it the gov't responsibility to put more money into a failing public school system. States are already spending $20,000 - $30,000 a year per student. That's enough money to send the students to private school - if vouchers would have been approved. Education & responsiblity start at home with the parents & community. Fix the problems at home & in the community and then you will see test scores go through the roof.

Well, I think Johnson (Lyndon, if you can remember) meant well with his New Society, but the housing projects certainly didn't work out too well, and Vietnam cost most of the $ he had.
The best way, IMHO, to improve the plight of the poor is through jobs and education. Bush has cut education in his budgets, and wants to make citizens out of 15 million illegals, all of whom will be competing with our already-poor for jobs. Tell me how that is going to help.

Here's some actual numbers for you:
Since 1962, the average annual budget deficit under Democrats: $36 Billion
under Republicans: $190 Billion
US GDP Growth under Democrats: 3.9%
under Republicans: 2.9%
Median Household Income under Clinton rose: 1.7%
under Bushes 1 & 2: - 1% (that's down 1%)
Average Price on the S&P Stock Market rose 15% under Clinton.
under Bushes 1 & 2: 3.4%
Average unemployment under Democrats: 4.8%
Average unemployment under Republicans: 6.3%
Average Real Job Growth under Democrats: 1.683 million / year
Average Real Job Growth under Republicans: 1.279 million / year
In 2000, under Clinton, the poverty rate was 11.3% (a 26-year low). Under Bush, the poverty rate has risen annually to its 2004 rate (last year available) of 12.7%. That means 4.2 million people have fallen into poverty under Bush.
The poverty rate of children under 18 has climbed to 17.8%, compared to 16.2% under Clinton.
So, at least as far as poverty goes, all the number say that Democrats do improve the economy and lower poverty rates. Under Republicans, the economy eventually falters (in most cases) and more people fall under the poverty line.
It's in the numbers. If you really want the question answered, ask why Democrats constantly have to repair the damage done to the economy and poor when Republicans are in control.
