I have a Honda Civic 1998 and whenever I step on the brake it starts shaking and the rear side of the passenger's side starts making noise. What could be the problem?

I f you have four whell disc brakes it sounds like your rotors or gone/ warped. If you have drum brakes it could possible be the drum itself. I had a similar problem with my work car. But it was the front rotors. I would hit the pedal and it would feal like sombody pushing back on the pedal repeatedly. Also I would check your pads/shoes if indeed your rotors/drums are shot.

There worn out. The shaking is from a warped "disc" or "drum" caused by the heat generated from metal rubbing on metal. The sound, I bet is like a high pitched squeal?? You need to have the brake pads replaced, and if this has been going on for a while there may be more expense as you may have to replace some of the metal parts as well. Needless to say this is a VERY DANGEROUS situation. Even if you have to borrow the money have it done NOW

You may have a problem with either the brake pad or even the axle. Definitely bring this into the dealership/mechanic, as brakes are NOt somehting you want to mess around with.

Don't know whats wrong with the rear side of the passenger's side....
But the shaking is probably the unbalanced wheels.....
Get them balanced and it will be all right....

I had the same problem and it was because my caliper was done. I changed the rotors, calipers and pads and the shake and noise is gone.

Hope this helps!
