If by similar you mean gothic, then try the following:

Horace Walpole Castle of Otranto: A Gothic Story (1764)

I'm not recommending it, because I absolutely hated it, but Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle deals with some of the same themes of the dangers of inherent to the pursuit of pure science.
