first thing you do is show them that you just can't live without a horse, then you hire a horse vet to go check for lameness, do a blood test, and assess its overall health. you should also bring an experienced trainer with you to judge if the horse has good conformation. they will mcharge you for their time, but it is money wll spent.

If you have already been leasing and properly taking care of this horse for a year that says a lot. Still, owning one is different. What happens after two years? Where will the horse stay? (I'm wondering here because if you need parents permission it indicates you live at home - and most adults don't have enough saved to care for a horse - everything he needs) for 2 years)
It sounds to me like your parents have other reservations. Instead of convincing have a discussion with them. What are their objections? How valid are those objections? What can you do, if anything, to solve those issues? Don't try to convince...as parents it's not always in your best interest to say yes. There could be other issues there and an open discussion is the only way to get it out.

Plead your case that you have been taking care of one for a year. If it doesn't work out, you may give your parents the option to sell the horse (if it's ok for you). Look at all sides, especially your parents side. It is alot of work--This coming from a horse show mom. My son didn't get into it like I thought and now my daughter has 2 horses to work with. Just be patient and really think it through.

Make a list of what you can do and what you will have to do, and then a list of what you have been doing. Approach it maturely and reasonably, with your facts in order. Sign an agreement to sell the horse if you fail to take care of your responsibilities - and do you have a plan beyond caring for him after two years? Do you have a way of income?

Same problem here... The only thing i could tell you is prove to them that you are responsible enough to have a horse... clean up around the house and volunteer to take out the trash and stuff like that... it works eventually...
