You're entitled Irish citizzenship if you can prove that you have Irish ancestors! Failing that i suggest you contact your TD and ask him what to do! You will be asked how long you've been a resident in Ireland, where you live, work etc. Someone suggested to get married to an Irish citizen ... All i can say is that there have been so many marriages of convenience (For someone to obtain an Irish passport) that they are making it harder now!

Why do you need to be Irish? Stacks of people live in Ireland but have no need to become Irish! I'm British live in Ireland but it would never occur to me to become Irish! I am what i am and Ireland is the country where i live. i don't need an Irish passport to know this!

As an E.U. Citizen which i guess you are you have the right to live and work in Ireland. After living in the country and working, paying taxes etc for a certain period of time you will be able to apply for citizenship and get an irish passport. This time varies from country to country in the E.U. but it is quite easy. This is also a back door into the USA as green cards are given out to Irish citizen but it is very hard to get a USA passport as a british citizen.
