Well if you are concerned about finding a job then I would stick to Charlotte or the Raleigh-Durham area. If that is not a matter to you then the best atmosphere in my opinion is the coast either up in the Northern Outer Banks (Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills/Duck) or down the coast on Emerald Isle. One benefit to being up in the Northern Outer Banks is that the Norfolk metro area is within an hour's drive. I always prefer to be close to an urban area.

Depends on where you are moving from and what kind of life-style you want.
I lived in NC for 12 years. Five years in the Mountains (foothills) and Seven in the Coastal Plane.
If you are looking for a progressive area with lots of culture and entertainment options, then you had best stick to the Piedmont area (From Raleigh to Winston Salem to Charlotte).
If you want something really quiet and more Appalachian, the Mountains are best. If you don't mind Old South and heat and humidity then Down East will work. However, I found the people East of Raleigh less accepting of outsiders, especially Yankees, than other parts of the State. I don't think you find that as much all the way down to the Coast. I have a niece who lives in Beaufort and loves it.
In terms of work and wages, I think your best bet will be in the Piedmont region. Of course, there are good jobs to be had all over, but not in abundance in the Western and Eastern sections.

One of the early posters is totally correct. NC is really like three different States in one. The accents and food and church cultures and everything vary from one section to another.
Another piece of advice. If you go, do not think you are going to change things!!!If you like it the way it is, then go and enjoy. However, if you find yourself chaffing about the way they talk or work or the way the fix certain foods----you might as well move on.

Good luck.

I love the NC coast (I'm moving there in Sept) My son lives in Charlotte and once lived in Cary (surburb of Raleigh) and he likes both locations. You've got your choice of Mountains and Beach all in a days drive. People are friendly. Good Luck on your relocation. Visit www.vrbo.com for info on any area.

I stay in NC, and its rather fantastic. sunset sea coast, NC is an excellent sea coast and if u circulate slightly techniques all the way down to Calabash, circulate to Capt. Johns and that they have got super crab legs(I had them!) Dont circulate to Capt. Nances, their nutrition is terrible now. My kin owns a sea coast residing house at sunset sea coast, and its fantastic there! I additionally propose going to Chapel Hill, NC. Its residing house of the Tarheels&Duke, they have an extremely good restaraunt referred to as 501 Diner, and that they have got super nutrition(Its the place the Tarheels consume!!) in addition they have Starbucks w/ wifi, and bagel place with wifi, the Carolina Baksetball Museum, and many different places! California has undesirable climate, NC has super climate!! Edit: NC isn't racist& its heat around Spring ruin except ur interior the mountains!! And sure, NC is exciting!

I would recommend living in Asheville. It is big enough to have plenty of activities, but it is almost small enough to feel comfortable living there.
