With a baby that young you need to consult a pediatrician before giving meds. Not to mention, either a glycerine suppository or Baby-Lax would be better for the child than medicine, but again, consult the pediatrician to be safe.

I think you should consult a doctor. Is the baby breastfed or bottle fed? Breastfed babies don't usually get constipated.

How long has the baby went without using the restroom? They can go up to 5 days without using the restroom and nothing could be wrong. She might be going through a growing spurt. When they are growing their body uses up most of what they eat, so it could be normal for her not to poo.

Try giving the baby some water first... (there are bottles of water for babies at most stores).

I would call your doctor or an advice nurse if you are worried... It is better to be safe. Always consult your DR before giving such a young infant meds...

Check with a doctor before giving a laxative. Make sure (it?) has enough fluids and if you are already feeding him/her solids try some pureed prunes (only if fruits have been introduced already). Rub the baby's tummy in a clockwise direction and if all else fails (okay this will seem gross to some but it works) with a bit of Vaseline, tickle the anus to stimulate bowel movement.

if you're giving your child any medicine other than ibuprofen, talk to your doctor first! some medicines are not ok for babies under 2 years old even if they say that they are for children. be careful! if the child is having problems having a bowel movement, try giving him prune juice. that sometimes helps. if it has been 3 days or less, it actually pretty normal, so don't worry about it unless he is having pain and crying a lot. but definitely talk to your pediatrician before giving him any laxative!

why r u giving your child a laxative? OMG!!! try something a little easier like....2tbsp of brown sugar, in a 4oz bottle. w/ warm water. works everytime. Your 4 month old does not need a laxative. You know when they are babies they can go 10 days with out a BM and be fine right?!?!?!

Call your doctor to make sure you can even give this to a four month old. I think you have to wait until they're 6 months. Your doctor or even a pharmacist can tell you if you can give it to your child & if so, how much is safe.

The baby is much too young. Give it some water or juice. If it is chronic call the pediatrician for help.

my friends baby had this problem from too much iron enriched formula. We gave him 2-3 drops, what the pharmacist at the drug store told us, and he started to go just fine. Good luck.

When my daughter was that small I would give her a teaspoon of light Karo Syrup. Just mix it in with their bottle and be ready to change them cause it will work.
