I have a 96 GMC Suburban w/ a 4L60E transmission. When I bought the truck the transmission case was broken. I replaced the case and have been driving it under normal driving conditions for less than 1000 miles since replaced. I noticed shifting problems today and looked under the vehicle and the new case is now broken. Any one heard of this? Motor mounts seem to be good so its not the engine torquing the trans. What else might cause a trans case to break open under normal driving conditions?

ARE THE TRANS MOUNTS OK?? IS IT BREAKING IN THE SAME PLACE AS THE LAST ONE? AND WHERE IS IT BREAKING, IS IT THE RIGHT FINAL DRIVE FOR THE VEH. HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED IT. DID THEY JUST BUT A NEW CASE IN AND REUSE THE INTERNALS OR IS IT A WHOLE DIFFERENT TRANS?

Where is the case broken? You may have a control pressure problem in the trans causing it. Not very likely but possible. Are ALL the mounts good, engine and trans? Need more detailed info as to where on the case the break has occurred.

Poor quality on the case will be a reason, as long as the transmission mounts are in good shape, other possibilities is that the original transmission could have been replaced by the wrong one.
if you ever replace the transmission , go for a GM reman, they have a 36,000 miles or 3 years, they are great quality and a good warranty.
good luck
