please explain to me why young people start smoking???with all the information and truth out there....what would make you start???doesnt make girls look sexy...makes dudes look very gay...

Peer pressure and wanting to look "tough" I guess. I don't understand it. No one with a decent job today smokes. Do you ever see the president of the company in the "smoke shack" at work?

Peer pressure is still (and always will be) a massive force in the lives of young people. I live on the West Coast where it is not considered cool by most young folk to smoke, and as a result, very few actually do.
My personal feeling is that there is a time in everyone's life where awareness of the world begins to set in, and the inherent pressures of that awareness drive many to escapism. One way of dodging some responsibility is to take up a habit which gives one an excuse to sit and do nothing. Something predictable, something familiar, and something regular that acts as an oasis from the turbulent world growing around.

Some unfortunately still think it is cool and what teenager ever thinks something bad is going to happen to them? Also many teen girls smoke with the mistake that it helps in weight management, well it eventually will as a skeleton 6 months after death does not weigh much at all.
And a woman who smokes sexy, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! kissing an ashtray is disgusting smoking is so unsexy......

Habit! Mom and Dad smoke everyone makes an issue about it, so as soon as they get the chance, they start to be rebellious and end up getting hooked. Same thing with alcohol-Everybody wants to try the "forbidden fruit". If you are not supposed to have it you want it more!

Young people start smoking because they think it makes them look cool or older and more sophisticated, when it really just makes them look like a kid with a cigarette, a bad habit if ever there was one.

Fab question. I hope to see an honest answer here. It is ridiculous in this day and age that people still have this nasty habit. Of course, all we know about fast food, and we still do that.

its the rebellion in youth,its the smoke nazis that make young ppl smoke if they would shut the **** up! then the kids would find something else to use to make a statment.
