Cuba has a terrible human rights records. Cuban people are not free & do not have access to their own beaches, hotels & resorts. Cuban people risk their lives everyday for freedom. Their government uses monies created by the travel industry to continually oppress their people. It is a vicious cycle & any of you that choose to visit Cuba, are enabling dictatorship.

In Cuba not everyone has a degree like someone who answered stated. Furthermore, I am Cuban, so I think that my entire life I have had a open mind & bleeding heart towards the real Cuba. I honestly wish that all of you that see Cuba as a travel destination would be stuck to live there for a couple years as actual Cuban citizens. Less than 10% of my family in Cuba has a degree & also healthcare is free there is no medicine to give. When my aunt got sick in Cuba she had to request us to send her all medical supplies including gauze, medicine, wheelchair, etc. What good is free healthcare? You are all so misguided.

Even if you work hard, they hand pick who gets degress in what. You are mislead.
Furthermore, if all of you would stop helping with the tourism dollars, maybe this would get more unbearable. This would prompt a revolt or involvement from the U.N. My grandparents that abadoned the country, thinking the U.S. was going to step in, made a big mistake. They should have stayed & fought. Unfortunately since there is no OIL in Cuba & freeing it would destroy the tourism to Miami Beach & other places...I don't expect U.S. help anytime soon. Again you are all supporting communism.

I understand your point of view and agree with you completely, even though I am not Cuban (thank God, no offense) I know that most people don't understand the real Cuba and the problem is that they go there for a week or so and they are treated nicely and with respect and they come back believing that Cuba is very nice, yes, it might be, but for visitors, definitely not for Cubans. I personally feel bad for the Cubans that live there, for those who actually sympathize with Fidel I couldn' t care less, because they are supporting slavery and communism.

3/4 parts of the World can visit Cuba. The only country that does not allow its citizens from visiting Cuba is the United States.
I do agree with you that Human Rights in Cuba are inexistent. I also agree with you that many Cubans fled to the US. However, one must acknowledge that before Fidel, there was Batista. And Batista oppressed the Cuban people. A black person was lower than dogs because of the color of their skin! It is indeed horrible and sad. These are not propaganda inventions. These are facts.
REVOLUTION MEANS CHANGE. The problem was, there was one change: The government's structure and that was Fidel. After that, everything froze in time. Everybody had a right to an education. Everybody could go to the University of Havanna, an internationally recognized institution of higher learning.
Governments aside: The Cubans and the Americans have been long lost friends. Both sides know on each side of the fence that there are wonderful people out there. When Katrina struck the US, a team of doctors, nurses and workers volunteered to help the American victims. Fidel Castro offered to send help. Bush rejected it. What is wrong with this picture? And I don't want to get started on the poor evacuation of the Citizens of Louisiana and Mississippi respectively!

The political situation is not ideal and I understand that it is very difficult for the people there, however...If you are Cuban you would realize that a huge portion of their population survives off of tourists dollars. What do you think would happen if that disappeared? Why do you think that the local police provide such a safe environment for the tourists??? Also, considering how food is rationed in Cuba, do you not think that maybe access to working in the tourists resorts provides those Cubans with the ability to obtain more money (tips), food and necessities that food rations do not?
Cuba is a beautiful country with an amazing history. As far as education is concerned Cuba has a fantastic set up and you can get whatever degree you want without paying for anything provided you work hard and get the grades. If you can't work hard to support your grades...regardless of what country you are in you don't deserve a degree.

Honestly, between 100,000 and 200,000 americans visit Cuba each and every year by going through Canada or Mexico. It is an incredible country to visit! Although you may find it that bad and opressed, but the fact is the education system there is better than the US. Their health industry is one of the best you can find. They have a ton of really great things to offer!
Yes it has its bad parts. So does every country.... You have the chance to visit a beautiful place, and its a shame you won't keep an open mind to give it a chance and see what Cuba is really like.

Not everyone who uses Yahoo lives in a country that makes traveling to Cuba a crime. We have been their 5 times and it is beautiful, the people are great. It is way better then going to Mexico. Maybe that is because people like you can and thank god don't go to Cuba. Stay home and leave it for people that have an open mind.

I think that many US citizens would love to travel to Cuba and have a great affection for the wonderful people of Cuba. As well as love the natural beauty of the country. I have always wanted to travel there. It is my hope and prayer that someday the two countries will open their doors and their hearts to one another. I am terribly grieved by the situation,

The US does not allow its citizens to go to Cuba, but that is not the case for other countries. Since anyone around the world can access the site, the information is available.

i cannot speak for Yahoo, but as far as i know, not every country has deemed Cuba (or other undesirable places) to be an 'illegal' destination..
if it were illegal, what is a USA-run detention base doing there??
As far as I know, only direct travel from USA - Cuba is not allowed. going via Canada, Mexico etc may be allowed...
just because your government says so, doesnt mean its right/wrong.

You are too parochial in your thinking. Cuba is an illegal travel destination for US citizens, but not for most of the people in the world.
