No, there really isn't nothing over the counter that is going to help you. There are 2 types of ear infections, inner and outer. Any over the counter drug or liquid will not help an inner ear infection. Only antibiotics will. If you have an outer ear infection, then only an antibiotic liquid will help...one that is made espeically for the ear. So basically, I hate to say this, but you'll need to go to a doctor to get examined and get the right medicine. If you wait too long, the pain can become unbearable (especially at night, when your metabolism slows down), and it can become worse....and even spread to the point where it can become dangerous. So go ahead and spend the money and get it treated right.......and get it over with. I hope you feel better really soon..... best of luck to you.........

Always go to the doctor especially if it gets worse even if it's only been a day or two. I didn't go to the doctor and I woke up with the side of my face swollen and was in extreme pain! I went to the emergency room and they said swimmers ear sent me home with ear drops and pain meds. Woke up the next morning feverish and had chills and aches and pains I was way worse went to er again. They had to give me intravenous antibiotics because the infection can spread if not taken care of! I was sent to the ears nose throat doc where they suction out the gunk and put a wick in. About a day later the infection spread to my other ear went back to ear nose throat doc and had the other ear wicked. Anyway it was the worst pain ever and a horrible experience. Just don't wait to go to the doctor like I did if not taken care of it could get worse!!!!

Go to the Doctor. Why do you even have to ask. An ear that hurts sooooo bad is not something you solve on yahoo answers! You could have an ear infection, punctured ear drum, or a variety of other things.

Yes, of course, if you're running a temp. You'll need antibiotics to treat it.
There OTC treatments for the pain - but not the infection
