Could be tire too. Check and see if grease has come out of bearing. The newer Explorers do have cvc. joints instead of u joints like my 92. And they do go bad faster.

You'll hear a bad wheel bearing when cornering since you are putting a side load on it then. If it makes noise when turning right it's usually the left bearing since it gets the weight of the vehicle, the opposite applies to left turns, right bearing bad. Sounds more like a problem with the axle, though I suspect you would hear clicking even on level ground. You may be able to look under the car to see if you have any damaged boots on the CV joints, if you do I would start there since they hold in the grease that lubes the CV joints. Most likely it will be cheaper to purchase a rebuilt axle, the cost of individual CV joints is usually more than getting the whole axle.

Typically, bearings no not make a "knocking" noise when they are bad. The most likely culprit is either a torn motor mount, or a transmission-related problem.

Have your vehicle inspected by a qualified technician.

Not even the best of us can correctly diagnose a problem without seeing the vehicle.

Run your hand alongside the tire tread if it has extreme and espresso spots truly on the interior side (slicing) than i'd suspect its the tire, now to not many rear bearings fail yet in case you record year make and type it would help extra acceptable because some are complication-free on particular autos.once you jack the tire up truly of transferring it( not all undesirable bearings have play) spin the tire and grab the spring that's going to sense comfortable even if in case you sense a vibration interior the spring than it will be from the bearing.GL

Wheel bearing would probably make noise all the time, not just on hills.
