I think they would have to give up their young pitching prospect Hughes.

There is no way that the Yankees are gonna get Zito. Know why? Because the Mets are gonna get him first. Because Zito is doing so well this year, he will want a raise. The A's won't give him one, though, due to their Moneyball beliefs. They'll be looking to trade him soon. The Mets have multiple players who they can trade for Zito, while the Yankees don't.

Billy Bean is to smart to deal away Zito in the middle of the season. The A's are certainly in the division race and team chemistry is huge to Bean. Zito will continue to be with the A's throughout this season. Yankees could go after Maddux or Willis. But the Yankees suck so don't worry about what they do!

A few years ago, they would have already traded away Hughes for Zito. Now that they've seen how effective bringing up players from the minors can be (Andy Phillips, Robinson Canó, Melky Cabrera, Chien-Ming Wang, Aaron Small, etc.), I think they'll hold onto Hughes and see if they can pick up Zito as a free agent.

A's won't give him up even if he is pitching a below average year. He is the heart of their rotation. Plus I am a Yankee fan and when was the last time the Yankees actually went for a starting pitcher that wasn't over 40 yeasrs old and at the end of his career?, lol Not mentioning any names though. . . .

If the A's trade Barry Zito ( they could because they can't resign him in the off-season, but may not because they are in the middle of the pennant race), it is highly unlikely they would trade them to another team in the American that could come back to beat them either in the regular season or in the playoffs. Common theory is, if Zito gets traded, ti would be to a national league team, most likely the Mets or the Cardinals.

Gee!! Even Barry Zito could not help the hapless, lifeless, bumbling Yankees at this point. They are just beyond help for this year, but we can all look forward to the house cleaning in October as Steinbrenner tries to buy his way to another championship. I must admit. The guy brings excitement to the game even though he hasn't been able to buy a pennant quite yet.

Have to call them as I see them.

Not in your wildest dreams.

Barry Zito wants a WORLD Series ring, and he knows he wont get one with the yankees.

I hope not. I'm a huge A's fan, and hate the Yankees. I don't see Oakland letting him go unless they are absolutely out of the race. As things go, if they get a couple of breaks, they could end up in the Series this year.

I would normally say no way that won't happen but we are talking about the Yankees here....they get everyone...so I'm not putting anything out of the question when it comes to the Yankees.
