I know it's old news but I've taken time to analyse it.

C ronaldo had her faults, but rooney got away with kicking the wrong balls, but then he shoved 'princess' & got a red.

I admire the lad as a striker (and all-rounder), but can we afford to let such a hothead loose in such a crucial match? Even Pele in his prime would not be much use if he can't stay on the pitch for the duration.

looking at the last hour of play, England would have trounced portugal if we'd had a full team.

In poker, rooney is what we call a fish - an opposing player dangles the bait - and he bites. That's not good enough for someone who earns more in a week than most of us do in 5 years!

if it was is first offence, I'd give him time to mature, but it's not the first time.

Very good answer JT - I assume u'r referring to beckham's kick on simeone. He was HATED by England fans for that until he redeemed himself (even I bore a grudge because he didn't kick simeone hard enough!). My point is, wayne is still everybody's hero, even though it isn't the 1st time his temper has got him into trouble. what kind of message does that send out? England fans need to register their disapproval in no uncertain terms.

What an amazing comparisson, you got it 100% right. His opponents can (and will) exploit this flaw, that probably was the case on that game (even though Ronaldo had his reasons for getting involved, he probably thought it could be with him). He made the red card himself, he only had to accept what the referee said, it wouldn't be Ronaldo's opinion that would change the referee's.

Now about cutting him off, I think they should blame him, and make him regret badly what he has done. If you do that, he'll be ALOT better from now on.

We had this player Edmundo here in Brazil, they used to call him "the animal" because he used to buy all fights. He noticed he lost alot of space on teams, because nobody wanted a player that you can't count on, and changed his attitude. If Rooney realizes what is the meaning of a hot-headed player, how he is vulnerable to his opponents taunts, he'll change.

Everyone who has watched more than 1 Man U match knows Rooney is a hothead. That fiery temper is part of what makes him the exceptional player he is at such a young age. If (hopefully when) he learns to control that and not react to provocation on the pitch (or off it, for that matter), England will be the better for his presence.

That being said, his blowup against Portugal was hardly surprising, and hardly surprising that Portugal were egging him on - they know what the rest of us do. The blame must also fall to the FA and Sven - all involved allowed Rooney to be touted as the savior of England. That's heady stuff for a 20-year-old, even one who's been the center of attention for several years. You not only allow the buildup, you feed it more by playing an unusual (to the team) system that focusses even more attention and pressure on the boy.

As an aside, in watching replay after replay, I would not be able to say with certainty that he did kick those wrong balls with intent...or "stomp" as the ref prefers. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but for most to take the ref's word for making his own decision after all the horrid reffing this Cup, it's all quite silly.

Let's not forget that a certain player named David Beckham has made more than one foolish or bad play that affected his team, and he was welcome back with open arms...even remaining captain. So ultimately, yes, I believe Rooney will be back and starting (not captain, God forbid...) and probably scoring. He seems to be pretty good at putting bad plays behind him - hopefully he'll do that in this case, but still learn from the experience.

I do believe if he had not reacted "violently" to Ronaldo and others, the ref would not have issued the red - cumulative behavior in one incident.

well, as someone said, thats his nature and i think people should understand that, give him time to mature, of course he'll soon realize that his behaviour will cost england big time....

probably what "princess" did made him even more furious considering its his own teamamte from manchester united...
he wouldn't have got the red card was it not for the "pretty bit**" running 40 yards to complain to the ref!!!!! so the bigger baby here is.......

rooney is great, he realizes what he's done and i'm sure for england's sake, he'll do something about it.
agree!?!?

if you look at most clubs in England then you will see most top players per team are from another country, so most English fans somehow believe cause they have a rich history and great football clubs in England that they are simply the best which they ain't...cause England is highly overrated in football it self.

Im not england fan, but i think he should play. Yes, he is idiot, but there arent plenty of good forwards in England. If he will stop playing who will be forward instead of him?
