To learn programming with book is not a good way, especially with Microsoft books that consist mainly of Microsoft self-advertising.. I learned it from Borland TC++ help and sources of the other people. And - surely! - writing my own code :-)

Are you learning programing from scratch or do you know any other programming languages? Because the anwser would depend on what your background is. And on what brand of compiler your planing on using.

go for herbert schildt's complete reference....it's the best one around for c++(the same is available for java,too)

(and if u r an indian u luckily have yashwant kanitkar with you)
