When im going up and down steep hills...i hear a knocking noise coming from the front. Someone told me that it could be the shaft or a bad bearing?...What do ya guys think?.....Could that be right?...Any one have any information. It's a 1999 Ford Explorer!!

The best way to check to see if the wheel bearing is going out jack up the Ford on both sides so the tire will move freely. Spin the tire slow and listen to it. You should be able to hear anything that shouldn't be there at all. Its not that hard to pull the bearing out either. If the bearings are bad they will usually fall apart when you take them out. Also the bearings might just need grease put back into them. I always repack the bearings and then put some grease in the dust caps too. Hopefully this will work out for you.

It could be but it is probably a bad motor or tranny mount. Hope I have been helpful.
