Because the "nothingness" is not a container. It does not have dimension. it is the personification of infinity. The universe is the largest measurable entity we can conceive of, so all of our distances are measured from a POV of our position on the planet in the solar system in the galaxy in the universe. Outside of that, there is no point of reference because the nothingness is made of nothing, it doesn't exist, it has no measurements. It is simply where our universe hasn't expanded to yet (or will never expand to, if you go with the idea that we're shrinking back to the pre-big bang ball).

There is nothing like nothingness. The universe is made it up of other planets including our earth. But beyond the universe, The verse space where the universe resides is endless. The universe is just there with endless space surrounding it.

Science does not posit that there is "nothingness" beyond our universe. In fact, it is generally accepted that our universe is flat, with three dimensions (plus seven really tiny ones), and without boundries (like a sphere, but with more dimensions). So if you want to seriously pursue an answer to your question, you need to move away from science and into more metaphysical and semantic realms.
