I just started my period yesterday, and i have constant cramps, im feeling really uncomfortable, and i have a constant blood flow. I just wanted to know, can i expect all this for my future periods, or is it just because it's my first one? And how bad will my future periods be? i havent even had it for a full day now, and i cant take it anymore! Also, are tampons more comfortable than pads? Im obviously new to this, and i need all the help and information i can get. Thanks.

How old are you? To try and answer your question, the cramps are not always that bad, it basically depends on how healthy a lifestyle you lead. In my case, I find that when I don't eat fast food and exercise, the cramps are barely noticeable while other times I'm not able to get out of bed.

About the blood flow, it'll be constant for 2 to 4 days, but it's different for each woman. Sometimes the amount will vary but it doesn't stop until the uterus has finished shedding its lining. If your flow continues longer than a week then you should see a doctor and make sure there is nothing wrong.

And finally, the question tampons vs. pads. This will also depend on your lifestyle and preference. Maybe if you like a lot of physical activities and sports tampons would be your best choice but. Pads are also great and there is many kinds of them according to flow abundance and materials. I'd reccomend you to use a combination of tampons and pads, exchanging them as you see fit to your daily acitivities. And also remember to never leave a tampon in for more than 4-5 hours and never, ever use a tampon overnight. It's better to switch to a pad just right before going to sleep.

Congratulations! Now you get to know the hell of being a woman. HAHAHA! Just kiddin' ya.

Your periods may not be as bad every time, or maybe it will. There's really no way to tell, since this is your first one. But here are a few things:

A heating pad can really help with cramping. Also, MIDOL might help. The cramps are from your uterus contracting, to expel blood.

Tampons are MUCH more comfortable than pads. But make sure that it's inserted high enough, or you'll keep getting the feeling to push it out. You shouldn't be able to feel it AT ALL, if it's inserted correctly. But don't leave a tampon in for longer than 8 hours. I used to use a tampon during the day, and a pad at night.

Don't worry, honey. Just about the time you want to scream, it'll be over.

Usually the cramping wears off after a day or two, but for some women it can be unbearable! You can take some over the counter medicine like some Ibuprofen or Midol. I take some Ibuprofen every six hours while I'm in pain and it works great! My cramps are so bad I sometimes have to call off of work! If that doesn't work, talk to your doctor. Some women have severe cramps during their period. Your doctor can prescribe you some medication if over the counter medication doesn't work.

As for pads or tampons...I personally prefer tampons. If you feel uncomfortable using them right now though, then pads work just as well, you'll just need to change them more often. To start out with you can try tampons that have a plastic applicator, it makes them slide in very easy! I suggest Playtex Gentle Glide Tampons. Cardboard applicators, or no applicator at all can be a little difficult and annoying when you are just starting your period for the first time.

Hope this helped! Good luck to you!

Every female is different. The first few periods are the worst. It will settle down over time.
Tampons are more comfortable. At first they are uncomfortable but If you keep at it, you will find they are much better than pads. Start with regular tampons. Read the instruction very carefully and ALWAYS wash you hands thoroghly before and after handling a tampon. Its very important.
I know periods really suck but try to be proud! You are becoming a woman! *thumbs up*

If it doesn't let up in a day or two, you may want to check with the doctor. I know it's different from girl to girl, and although I'm a bit older (28) I have it heavy for a few days then it kinda slacks off to nothing. I love tampons better, but just change them often, and yes, you can sleep with them. Just change then when you go to bed and again when you get up.

I like Tampax Pearl the best. I can't use just any brand I want. But if it hurts when you put it in, you may not have inserted it far enough up. It also is something to get used to and some people don't like them. But they come in different sizes..so you have to get the size you need. Sounds like you may want super, but you may want to start out with the reg, until you are better at it, and then move up to a better absorbent. I hope this helps!

You really wont be able to really know how your period is going to be for about a year, Your period needs time to regulate. As for pads or tampons it all depends on what you feel the most comfortable with. Good luck!

My periods for, like, a year or so would vary between being really light and really heavy. Now they're normally pretty light, but I still get a bad one every once in a while. To take care of your cramps use IBUprofen. It's the best...Midol never works for me. And, in my opinion, I like to switch between tampons and pads, but, being most likely pretty young, you might not like tampons because they do hurt when you're young. Good luck and welcome to the club!

Oh, my. Welcome to the world of womanhood. Actually, your body becomes used to this pain. Through the centuries, women have had to deal with this and managed to live happy and successful lives. Take Tylenol or Midol. Go to a doctor and get checked out. But, most of all, take care of your body. It is a temple. Stay away from caffeine, smoking, etc. as that only increases your risks and sometimes, your pain.

Well, welcome to womanhood. Periods are never much fun, but they do get better. Each woman is different, so if your cramps are bad, take midol. It helps. :)
