You think that was stupid? At least he was trying to find ideas to keep future generations alive. And it's "Who in here is answering the stupid question Dr. Hawking asked about human survival?", if you don't want to sound stupid yourself.

The premise that things are so much worse now is false. These are trying times that demand action, perhaps, but man has faced new challenges and the dawn of a golden age at the beginning of the last century, the century before that and the century before that. I felt it best to leave the mans question alone and go about my business and leave him to ponder the scenario as he sees it. I do agree that it is important and that some good will come from discussing it, but my answer would not have helped anything in this case, so I let it slide.
