His Dad was a popular leader with his people who respected him. His son is just a little man that the people have never taken to and thinks that by making a little noise, he will be noticed. The old squeaky wheel gets the grease. Unfortunately for him, his lists of friends are dwindling and may face a civil war of coup to over throw him at any moment. His policies have for the most part failed and his country, majority of it at least, lies in poverty and despair. look for both Russia and China to be a major player here, they have the most to gain and Japan, who being so geographically close, has the most to lose. Instability only leads to more instability and he will soon find out that his actions will be held accountable on the international stage!

Kim Jong-il is widely believed to be insane-not exactly a first for
a world leader,unfortunately. I think he wants a lot of things,but the
whole missile business is about flexing his muscles. Since Bush
has been doing the same thing since 9/11,invading other countries to do it,we can't really blame the North Koreans for
becoming even more paranoid than before.

I'm guessing he is looking for trouble. Anything to make the US look bad. "Oh look they liberated Iraq, they are threatening Iran, now they will bully us just because we have nukes"
