Assuming the water heater is still heating properly after you flip the breaker back on, I suspect you have a weak breaker that is kicking off during the night after shower time. The cheapest and easiest test is to buy a new breaker. It is probably a 30 amp switch that will cost you about $12-$15 at Home Depot. Unplug the existing breaker, change the wires, and plug the new one back in. !! Don't do anything with the master breaker still in the ON postion. In other words... Do not work with it HOT!!
If that doesn't work, you may have to replace the heating elements in the water heater. But typically they do not cause the breakers to trip, they simply burn out and the water doesnt get hot any more.

Check to see if the insulation is wet where you set your thermostat. If it is, it could be causing a short. Most hot water heaters have two elements; one of them may be shorting out. You can test them with a cheap electrical tester by selecting ohms, removing the wires (obviously after cutting the power to the hot water heater) that attach to the elements, and just test for continuity.

Your water heater (not a hot water heater) probably has a bad element.
You can check its continuity to ground with an ohm meter.

i wish i knew but mine is leaking. so if it makes u feel better u r not the only one with a hot water heater problem. . maybe your fuse box is old and when the heater kicks on it is sending too much power to the box and the box shuts down???**just a guess**

when you consider which you're drawing off warm water swifter than that's heated, or the heater isn't proper for a shower. attempt turning the nice and cozy water down slightly to be certain if it improves.

There is a short circuit in one of the heating elements, replace both, should be fine.
