I have a three yr old. So it has been a while since my first prenatal exam. Can you tell me what to expect at my appt today? And also can you tell me if you started showing sooner with the second child.

You should probably expect to have a pap smear/pelvic exam, breast exam and have your weight, urine and blood pressure checked. They doctor will calculate your due date and possible talk to you a little bit about pregnancy. You will need to know when your last period began. They may listen for a heartbeat, but don't be shocked if you don't hear one, it may be too early to hear it. I didn't really show any sooner with my second baby. I did however get bigger quicker. My second baby only weighed 2 ounces more than my first. Maybe it just depends on the individual.

Usually, they will weigh you, have you give a urine sample to test sugar and albuimen, blood pressure, they will probably do a pap and pelvic exam, listen to the babies heartbeat. If they can't hear it with the doplar, they will probably do an ultrasound, just to make sure everything is fine. Usually with second babies, the heartbeat is heard better then with the first. The uterus stretches earlier and your body kinda knows what is going on. They will do blood tests, set you up for more appointments, tell you what to expect in those appointments and they will probably give you literature to read, and some samples of prenantal vitamins.

Write a list of questions that you have, then when the doctor asks if you have any, you won't forget them.

Read "what to expect when your expecting". It's been a while since your last baby, and a refresher is never a bad thing. Then follow the pregnancy diet.

You may start to show sooner, I did with my second pregnancy. I got bigger then I had before also. It just depends on the woman though... some don't show sooner, some do, some get bigger, some don't.

they're prolly just gonna do blood work and a pap smear. They'll listen with the doppler for the baby's heart, give ya some prenatals and an appointment for 4 weeks from now. Oh and btw, I did show earlier with my 2nd than I did with my 1st. congrats!

I have never been pregnant before, so I can't answer all of your questions. I can tell you that yes you do start showing sooner with the second child because your abdominal wall isn't as tight.
