Not really. Why, they are super intelligent at eating, searching food & swimming in the water all the time without drowning. Fish are not quite smart, but they are lovely if U've been feeding them for a long time.

Dont you just love it when people give a conclusion based on bad science. If you can find a goldfish with a 3 second memmory ill give you $1000. Goldfish have great memmories, and have been trained. There was an experiment where the fish got food only when a lever was pulled. the goldfish learned to this when they wanted food. Now think about it really carefully, a 3 sec mem. What would happen? I'm eating food, hey what's happening? That is impossible.
As per the above, goldfish are quite smart, and they are given a bad rap because people keep them in bowls, where they never see their personalities or intellect
Finally, goldfish are smarter than anyone who beleives in 3 second memmory spans

I once had a gold fish living in a tiny fish tank and when it looked up it though the top of the water was new and it would swim up to see the surface. Once at the surface it would get bored and look down and get excited that the bottom of the tank was new and swim down and get bored then it would look up again and think that it saw something new.
This would happen all day until it died in about 2 weeks. This was the smartest gold fish I ever had. So does that answer your question?

they are fairly intelligent i think. my goldfish run up to the side of the tank or the edge of my pond as soon as a human comes around because they know that humans offer food. They would probably be smarter if they had a memory span that lasted more than 3 seconds though

The 3 second memory thing is really outdated. Here is a video of a trained goldfish- he rings a bell when he wants food.

And there's always the sycronized swimmers.

There are also a number of articles that discuss how absurd the idea is. Anyone who has a goldfish can tell you that they recognize you, they certainly know that you are the one that provides the food. Heck- I have an adoptee that has no eyes. I tap on the rim of his tank and he comes right to place. That way he gets food before his tankmate eats it all.
Just because they are fat and happy doesn't make them stupid. :)

No, I read something that said that goldfish only have a 3 second attention span. That means they're incapable of logic or real intelligence

Yes, my fish are anyway. Maybe if yours aren't then its because the owner. The fact that some of you think they have a 3 second memory proves that.

yes fish are very intelligent, they communicate using sounds we can't hear, they have an intelligence greater than that of some mammals, some fish are even more intelligent than non-human primates.
