Wear them for one day, and you'll have your answer.
Heels are okay, but not if you are going to do a lot of walking. Nylons are annoying to put on, hot, and tend to run. With skirts and dresses, you have to watch how you sit or you end up giving everyone a show.
Jeans and pants are more comfortable and pragmatic. I save the dresses and heals for special occasions.

A better question would be "why do men think women should always be wearing dresses, skirts, nylons and heels?" Don't get me wrong, I'm far from the type that wears baggy pants, sweat pants, etc. but why can't women wear jeans and a cute shirt or dress pants with a nice top. Does it always have to be skirts and heels? Have you ever tried wearing skirts and heels everyday? It's a pain in the a$$. Sometimes I think that guys expect girls to get all dolled up for nothing in return. Isn't it enough that it takes me an hour to an hour and a half to get ready every morning?

I don't know. I guess every women goes through that I don't care what I look like cause I'm comfy phase.
Some don't seem to realize that you can get cute skirts or capris and tee's that are comfy and make you look good too. Because all clothing is made differently, and every single women has a different shaped body, it can sometimes be a big hassle to try to find nice clothes that are comfy and look good.
Also, some women have low self-esteems and aren't comfortable unless they are wearing shapeless clothing. They don't realize that they are beautiful in their own way. So they'd rather down play everything and try to make themselves invisible.
I like making the effort to dress up in a cute or sexy outfit when I go out. But if I'm not getting compliments or see that my bf appreciates it, why should I bother?

Uh... i'm not a girl but i think its pretty obvious because it requires a lot more maintenence wearing dresses skirts and mini skirts because if you wear those you need to make sure you don't have hairy legs and you have to worry about people trying to look up your skirt or the wind blowing... etc. Its just much easier to slap on a pair of jeans and wear whatever is comfortable. I mean you can get away without shaving by wearing jeans and long sleeved shirts for a couple of days =3

I love to dress up and feel wrong in anything but heels, but then that's always been my style. I think 'cross-dressing' as you interestingly put it, is just a visual sign of a psychological change which includes a redefinition of what is is to be feminine and new freedoms, expressed in fashion. I don't mind women wearing pants but I do think it's a shame if they wear shapeless, sexless clothes... but then I think the same about men in football strips T-shirts/sweat pants and tracksuits. Overall the standard of what we all wear, what we eat, how we behave and how we present ourselves has gone down and that's a big pity.

Just because a woman wears the clothing you describe does NOT make her a cross dresser. When one is said to be a cross dresser the person is as a rule not only dressed as the opposite sex BUT dresses so that he she LOOKS like the opposite sex. As in a man dressing as a woman also applies makeup, nylons high heels etc. And when a woman dresses as a man she as a rule will also wear the shoes and at times will apply makeup so it looks as if she has some hair grown on her face. MAKING herself LOOK like a man. I think you have your idea of what a cross dresser is, messed up.

Because nylons aren't comfortable and neither are most heels. Because it is easier to function in jeans. Because butt-tight clothing is uncomfortable and baggy clothes are easy to move around in. It's not cross-dressing. Don't be ignorant - many women have to dress up for work so when we get home, it's sweats for us.

Girls are not brought up to be elegant, proper and classy women anymore. They're free-spirited and being feminine is not on the agenda. The white trash trailer park slutty look is in. Haven't you noticed? LOL
I've noticed a lot of women hypocrites answer your question claiming that they wear what they want to wear because they're comfortable and practical. But when a guy states he wears pantyhose for the same reasons, everyone automatically calls him gay. They don't take in consideration that many of the reasons men wear certain clothing normally labeled more for women, are the same reasons women have for wearing masculine clothing.
By reading many of the answers, it sounds like a double-standard.
"Do as I say, not as I do".

Comfort..... Men can be comfortable so women can too. Sometimes we don't like dresses and skirts that requires shavin' our legs which is a pain in the ***. Oh and nylons OMG they rip no matter how careful we are. Don't even get me started on heels, they kill our feet.

If they are made for women, they are not mens clothing. Most women want to be comfortable and those other items you mention are mostly for business or dressing "up". I dont know any women that hang out in nylons and dresses.
