I've been car hunting lately, and we found a little Prizm at a very decent price. Has anyone had experience with this vehicle? If so, please give details.. the good and the bad.

The Chevy Prism is a re-badged Toyota Corrolla. It is an excellent small car. Reliable and efficient.

Be sure to get an inspection of the car by an independant mechanic of your choice before you buy! Dont want to have any surprises! Remember...like all things in life, buying a car is a crap shoot...you just have to get as much information as possible and roll the dice! If this car is in good shape according to your mechanic, it should be a good choice! Drive Safe!

Be sure to check Edmunds.com for their Used car appraiser to see what fair market value for this car is before you buy!

I always thought it looked like a Toyota, but never realized that it actually *was* one. It should be pretty reliable. However, Toyota parts are quite expensive, so sticker shock will probably occur if anything *does* break, go wrong, etc. The 1.8 L 4-cyl. engine is an improvement over the dinky 1.6 L one used in the older Prizms. The Prizm is definately a better vehicle than its Geo brother, the Metro, with its tiny 3-cylinder and a blistering top speed of around 55, pedal to the floor. I'd go for it.

Here's the correct answer. It CAN be a reliable car; but it really just depends on who owed it before you, how many miles, and how you are going to be using the car. I'll assume it's been checked out and is OK mechanically. If you are going to use it for a daily driver, it should be fine. It's basically a Toyota product with the Chevy/Geo name slapped on it. Traditionally these cars are pretty dependable, assuming they are well-maintanined (oil, filters, tuneups, etc) up through about the 90,000 to 110,000 mile mark, depending on how they're driven, then things start to break down. If you are going to do a lot of highway driving, you'll get good MPG, but your comfort level won't be that high. It's designed to be an "in-town" car more than a long range cruiser.

Hope this helped.

Do not buy a FORD!

Prizm is by far the best of the GEO line in Chevrolet, one reason only: it is a TOYOTA
Great , reliable and will not let you down, as long as it has a clean title, it is a good buy.
