So there are dream "dictionaries" that tell you if you dream of X it means Y. These aren't bad starting places as they are giving you universal symbolic translations. That's a start, but not the answer.

Next you have to take the context of what happened and what the symbols personally mean to you. We all seeing things differently. Some people love clowns and it reminds them of happy times, maybe family events like going to the circus. Others have serious clown phobias and it's not a happy thought maybe more of an omen. If you relate strongly to Stephen King's "IT" maybe they are even a warning of danger.

Lastly you have to add in how you flet in your dream. You saw a guitar, did it make you happy? Do guitars remind you of a former boyfriend/girlfriend?

Those really outrageous mixed up symbol dreams just need to be taken apart piece by piece.

Next time you have a dream filled with objects or actions that don't make sense try listing them out on a sheet of paper and what they naturally mean to you and how you felt or feel about them.

Sigmund Freud: "The Interpretation of Dreams"

Once you weed through the self-centered references common to all his work, you can gain some insight into general symbolism and begin interpreting your own dreams. Don't look for any blanket answers, the specific symbolism can only be determined with a thorough understanding of the individual (yourself). The book will essentially train you to interpret your dreams.

I don't know if all dreams necessarily have meaning. I think dreams are just a way for your brain to do a daily recycle of info.

find a good Jungian psychologist, and in the meantime recognize that everyone in the dream is YOU,...talk to yourself about how the events unfolded....what kind of emotions went with it...were you feeling scared, out of control for instance...

Forget about those dream books. Your dreams, like everything else in your life, mean whatever you want them to.

My dreams mean I am severly disturbed individual! ;)
