Because very few religions actually have a single leader. In the West, only the Catholic Church has a cohesive leadership and command structure.

Islam certainly has no single leader, each Imam being a local leader and interpreting Islam as he personally sees fit. That is why Islam is so seemingly schizophrenic - some sects/imams teach ultra-violent jihad against all infidels (including non-jihadist Muslims), while others teach peace, love and harmony, and there are ones at all points in between.

So, while it is a commendable idea, it would not be possible in practice.

If you look to the Scriptures for the answer to your question, the answer becomes clear. According to Bible prophecy, we are living in a time period identified as the "last days of this system of things." During this time period there would be "no natural affection" where "the love of the greater number will cool off."- 2 Timothy 3:1-5; Matthew 24:3,12. As you can see this lack of love has even affected heads of major religions, even to the point that some of these heads have taken sides in gruesome wars and conflicts.
Also behind this lack of love among mankind is an evil culprit who has been misleading man from its very beginning. The Bible identifies this one at 1 John 5:19 and Revelation 12:9 as Satan the Devil.
So you may now have the question, "Will religion ever be united in love?" For the answer, you can go to www.watchtower.org, type in the search box, "united by love of God", and click on the first link. There you will find satisfying, Scriptural answers.

1. The 'heads' of each religion would lose their power and influence over their flock.

2. Some religions do not accept any other religion as true or real.

3. Then we wouldn't need the religious heads!

4. That might be placing the emphasis of religion on the actual attributes of God instead of 'winning more souls for their team'.

Good luck to you!

Isn't this what Promise Keepers tries to do?

Although I am commanded to love everyone, I'm not commanded to accept every one. Jesus Himself didn't accept the Pharisees' religion. If your religion is contrary to the Bible, I can still love you, but I can't accept you as a brother/sister in Christ.

Because that would be admitting that the other religions were also real. The basic tenet of most religions is that they are the only ones that are right.
