I had been having this problem for years. The mechanic I had been going to basically said he couldn't find anything wrong.

I finally got a recommendation to another mechanic and after spending $2,400 parts/labor, the Check Engine light no longer comes on.

The car in question is in great shape having survived my neglect. I had to have the radiator replaced, a transmission service, plugs, air box, egr tube, egr solenoid, valve gaskets, plus more I can't remember. But now, I am so happy with my Town Car I hope to drive it another 100,000 miles. It currently has 182,000 on it.

I just thought I would share my results with e1.

Ford,s back then had so much EGR trouble it was rare to find one that didn,t have some kind of an EGR code. Very often just a chunk of carbon lodged under the pintle seat but soooo very common. Remove valve and clean the seat and reinstall it may help if of course that was the problem............good luck.

all older vehicles at least once will get the check engine liter on. Go to a local auto zone and they will scan it for free and recomend the repairs from there.

the check engine light can come due to various problems such as; time to change your oil, a bad sensor, or even like a cracked exhust manifold. it is best to take a good walk through of the engine.
