Assuming the same rate of growth in England as for the entire UK, England's current population is about 50,660,000.

The population of England has topped 50 million for the first time ever, offical government figures
And the number of people in the UK as a whole has almostly certainly reached 60 millon for the first time, says the Office for National Statistics.
The estimated population of England as at June 30 2004 was 50.1 million, a rise of 238,000 or 0.5 percent compared with mid-2003.
The figure for the UK at the same time was 59.8 million, also an increase of 0.5 percent. This is in line with projections that the UK population would hit 60 million in mid-2005.
An ONS spokesman said: "England has now reached the 50 million mark and the UK is not far short of 60 million.
