Most americans have the attention span of a goldfish. They cannot change channels between plays or pitches, they have to sit down and actaully watch the game, and that is beyond most people's ability. If there was more scoring it might bring in a few but not alot of fans. Soccer is seen as the world's sport and Americans dont really want anything to do with the rest of the world.

I agree that the rules are very easy to catch on to and that matches provide a lot of drama. I think soccer hasn't caught on simply because there isn't a lot of scoring. Look also at the fact that hockey isn't popular and baseball's popularity has been declining (although you can attribute steroids and strikes to that as much as the younger generation saying it's "boring." However, look at basketball and football and you see growing popularity.
I imagine very few people realize our soccer team was rated #5 in the world entering this World Cup.

Point #8 explains why soccer will never ever be popular in the U.S....diving.
There are loads of soccer fans but given the choice, why would they get crazy about soccer? They have far more entertaining sports where scoring and action occurs more than the whopping German 2 shots on goal in 120 minutes of play as in that semi-final. Snoozeville esp. in the video game age kids are brought up on. Even baseball is suffering from that sysndrome in the U.S. and that's as slow as soccer.
Just because something is "popular" does not make it good. To wit, Britney Spears' songs.

Because soccer has become all too fake. Americans love to watch soccer highlights. Great goals, great passes, etc.
But the instant turn-off is when they have to bring out a stretcher for some 30 year old male athlete who has been "pushed" and fell on lush grass. It is ridiculous. Only someone who understands this culture of theatricals can accept it. In other sports the stretcher is brought out only for career-ending injuries, or in some cases death (i.e. Bull Riding). I love soccer, but those things have to stop!

There are so many reasons why Americans are not very interested in soccer. Americans are caught up in size and tackeling and touchdowns and everything else thats exciting. Soccer is much different, because it is much harder to play. It is hard to understand unless you are a soccer player. USA can have its football and baseball, but the world can have its soccer.

It's because Americans aren't good at soccer. Europeans live for the game of soccer. If Americans want soccer to be popular, make it popular! the world can't help a country make a sport popular. The US has to work for itself.

Well soccer isn't popular in america because well that's the way it is .. all americans like the NBA , NFL or MLB and somewhere in between there is the NHL so all i can say is there is no room for soccer in the U.S. .......... plus all the football loving countries don't like basketball or don't like american football because its the way they have been brought up...... most of the ppl who do watch soccer in America are immigrants who were born watching soccer (football)

I'm from england and we go mad over it! Its sad cuz football is alot more interesting than baseball or American Football, what is that anyway? why all the protection? Have they never seen rugby for godssake? now thats a Mans sport i laugh at American Football! Americans need more culture but i'm afraid to say they are too closed minded to accept it or explore it!
And trust me "American Football" isn't a real sport sweetheart!
