On the episode, a mom and daughter, the daughter was about 14 years old were arguing at a stop sing in the car. The cops passed by at the time the girl walked out of the car and down the street. When the cops talked to her the girl said that the mom had slapped her, that she shouldn't had slapped her because that was child abuse. The cops then said, are you sure, you better check again because that's not child abuse. Ok so what's the deal, I know for a fact that if you slap your child who is under 18yrs, child services could come and take them away for child abuse. So what's the deal with this cops episode?

It is and it isn't. Child abuse is something that gets out of control, and it also depends on the state that you live in. But maybe if more kids got slapped when they got out of control they would show more respect. As I see it, when I was a kid, my generation did not have so many criminals as they do now, and the number of kids that I see today telling the parents what they will and won't do and cursing them out is ridiculous

If you would have asked that question say 40 years ago the answer would have been no for sure. Things have changed so much in time. I saw a woman get arrested for child abuse just because she shook her child. It was'nt violent at all. And it was'nt without cause either. The kid was running around the store pulling things off the shelf and yelling and carrying on and the mother had repeatedly asked the child to stop and behaive nicely. I actually went to court for that, I had to testify.
But then again you have to remember that kids have access to alot of information these days. tv, internet, cell phones, text messages ect....Kids these days know that if they don't like the disipline that they get from their parents they can always call social services, or Dept. of Children and Families or the cops.
Don't get me wrong, there are some parents that take disipline waaaaay too far. I was spanked as a child whenever I was bad and it worked, I nenever did the same bad thing twice. But my mother never hit me in the face.
Laws are different from city to city, county to county and state to state. It's important to know the laws in your area. It's important to understand what the circumstances are that led to the slap or the shake or the spanking. Hope this helps in some way for you. Take care.

Slapping a child for something they did wrong is not child abuse in the true definition of the word. If you were to repeatedly slapped your child or beat them, and then they would require hospitalization, then that is child abuse.

If the Child is teenager age and is slapped because of what ever reason, (which is not right) and didn't require hospitalization it is not child abuse.

Now if the slapping was reported to the Child services and an investigation occurs, then after there investigation if it is determined to in the child's best interest, the state has an obligation to step in and protect the child. Removing the child from the house is one of the options.

Slapping your child is not child abuse. Now if you beat the crap out of them and leave bruises and marks on them then yes. In this day and time some children need a good ole fashion butt whooping because they cannot act right and want to do things adult do knowing they are too freakin young to do it. Watch some Tyler Perry plays and you will see where I am coming from, kids these days are getting out of hand because parents are too scared to put that belt to that behind and put their foot down.

If she just slaps her around all of the time for no reason, or close fist punches her, that's child abuse, but if she slaps her for back talking or doing something wrong, then it's not.

Slaping your child once as a punishment is not abuse if it doesnt cause damage. It is not beating the child.

It isn't considered child abuse until a mark like a bruise or worse happens.
