Why do some people who choose to take their own life feel the need to take their kids with them? It's really sad and I don't understand why someone would do that.

I just saw the article about the incident in California, and it triggered my question. But that's not the first time I've heard of this in the news.

Actually, the act of taking their own life and the life of their kids is an act of love. They don't want the kids to have to grow up without them.. so they want to take them with them... Strange.. but true..

I have personal experience with this one... the guy erased all video and destroyed all photos of the family.. Killed the mother.. tried to kill the kids.. but they hid from the father... the Father then took his own life.... The kids are all grown up now.. but there are issues in their life.. having to live with the burden of understanding how and why their father would kill their mother and himself.. and leave them alone... but actually.. he wanted them all go together....

Very disturbing, terrible, horrible to even think about. I personally believe that it's just that the person's mind "snaps", they lose it, so naturally there isn't rational thought there. They feel if they can take care of their children because they're messed up or they can't have their children 24/7 due to the adult relationship that they'll "take" them too, thinking it's better for the children this way than to be left behind. Very scary, very sick. I can relate to this sort of unnerving event because I am separated from my husband - who can "snap" - and fighting in court for custody of our two younger children. If I "win" and the children are with me, part of me is afraid he'll do such a thing, snap and take us all. And please, no just get a restraining order against him, because that is worthless to a person like that.

i don't understand either but Ive know someone who did it and that guy just didn't want his wife to have the kids but for a mothers point of view i would think that if your going to kill yourself what mental point must you be at in your life to get there anyway, it would be better to take your kids with you than leave them alone I'm sure in some cases its a warped sense of love that drives people to do these things.

I think they take their life because they obviously feel there's nothing to live for so I guess they feel ther's no reason to leave kids behind for that. Therefore, it is truly sad anyone feels life is not worth living. They'll never find out what tomorrow may bring because they won't but there for it.

"another ditch in the road you'l keep going on another stop sign you keep going on. years may goes by so fast but you'l make it through". sometimes people just have to make decisions and frequently choses the bitter life even if it means sacrificing the happiness of the little ones. thats just life is all about no pain no gain.

There is most often some freaky religious reason for it. They are not killing their children, they are saving them from this horrible world and delivering them to god.

Yet another winning facet of faith.

Perhaps because they want to make the person left behind suffer even more
