Short of just replaceing them (very expensive) Re-facing the cabinet, then putting new doors on them is the most economical way. We found that you can get a video and materials from Lowe's to allow you to do the refacing yourself. Then measure for the doors and install them yourself. So much better than hiring someone to do it for you. Releatively easy.

Go to Lowes. In the same aisle as the spray paints (or near there) look for rejuvinating oil. It's about $7 a quart or so.

Clean up the cabinet surfaces with 409 or something.

Then, find a conspicuous spot to test the oil. Follow instructions on the can... rub in, wait for 15 minutes. Then rub out.

We just did this on some well worn cabinets from 1990. We took off all the knobs and hinges (and spray painted them to a stainless silver color). Rubbed on the rejuvinating oil.

Put it all together and it looks brand new.

Good luck.

You can't paint plastic laminated surfaces, however they can be re-surfaced. there are plenty of cabinet re-facing companies around, check the phone book.

* Buy new ones.
* They do sell just the front of cabinets.
Check with Sears, HomeDepot, etc.
* Paint them.
