I do not do it all the time, but today i was told "shut your gob", when I did so.

So how would you feel if your friend was like me, and corrcted you sometimes, but NOT ALL the time?

tell them that it's friggin annoying and they need to knock it off. It's IMing not an English paper. What are they practicing to be a stuffy teacher or something. If that dosn't work block their IMs for a while.

Remember that the point of communication, including IM'ing, is not to make it look pretty, but to *communicate* something. If you can't understand what your friend is saying, then maybe you should tell her so. If you can, but there are misspellings, so what? Major on the majors, minor on the minors. Spelling is such a minor (and I say this as a former spelling bee winner!)

I would feel like i had a nerdy butthole for a friend. most of us know how to spell and don't out of laziness etc. as long as you know what the person is saying why do you feel the need to correct minor mistakes? IMing friends is supposed to be casual conversation, you will just make people uncomfortable doing that.

For example, I could write the word corrected for you since you mispelled it but I don't believe that is going to make you a better person.

If you value the friendship and know that correcting this friends spelling is a source of aggravation, then by all means back off. We all have things which tend to set our teeth on edge (I can't stand noisy eaters), but the better part of valor may be to just ignore the misspelled words.

You should be keeping your corrections to yourself. IM'ing is a very informal mode of communication, and due to its very nature, is prone to errror. If you can't let your friends errors slide w/out criticism, your friend needs to let you go.

kudos to dean on his picking up of the spelling of corrected.

Why do you correct during IM's? If you know what they are saying, should it really matter if they make a mistake. I would ask what you're doing correcting me. You understand so what makes the difference. I am not in English class.

lol I correct people all the time when I'm in the mood and I don't mind when people correct me because if its mispelled it was either a silly typo or I actually don't know how to spell the word, in which case its nice to be told how so I know.

If it's misspelled but it's close enough that you can read it anyway you should lighten up. It's not a test, nobody's being graded and some people just aren't good at spelling.....

BTW you misspelled corrected!!!!

as long as you can understand what they are saying. STOP, its not necessary to have correct spelling or grammar when you are talking to a friend.
