I'm from the US and I've been watching all the world cup games this year for the first time in my life. I enjoy the games, but I find one aspect of the game highly irritating. Players seem to roll on the ground 5 to 6 times in agony and then they get up and there is nothing wrong with them. I guess I'm a product of the overblown American "tough guy" culture and I realize that some of this comes down to strategy, but shouldn't there be some sort of code or culture of honor in the sport that keeps these players from flopping all the time. I'd love the sport if it weren't for this aspect of the game. Please don't take this question as an insult because it isn't meant to be and is solely based on my observations during this world cup.

I understand about what you are saying. However, every sport played as some gap for players and teams to "cheat". This is one of the ways it's done in soccer. If the referee catches you, you get punished. If you don't, you have put your team in a good position. There is some kind of cheating in every sport. Basketball has blocking and fouling. NFL has holding, and late hits.

It is true that these players do roll on the ground and cry about things that don't really hurt that much but most of the time they are doing it to get a free kick or to stop the build up of momentum that the other team is getting. Some of the players are tough like Brian McBride who got elbowed in the face, walked off the field got stitched up and then started playing again. I do think there should be more players like that instead of the pussy's who just fall every time they are touched. Also the coaches can be blamed because some coaches teach their players to do that.

I agree that the showboating after touchdowns is extremely annoying, and I would like American football more if that wasn't a part of it... but I hate that soccer players take dives and try to cheat to get fouls called. I wish that FIFA would watch the replays and fine or suspend players that they watched take a dive. They do this for refs that do a bad job so why not check the players too?

You have to understand, it is just an aspect of the game. For us, seeing all the showboating and dancing after a touch down, is normal. But for people who aren't used to it, is very irritating. Every sport have this moments.
