Since Star Trek first aired in the 1960s and Star Wars in the 1970s, Star Trek fans might be older.

Only difference is that the ones with the pointy ears at Star Trek conventions are trying to look like Mr. Spock and the ones at Star Wars conventions are trying to look like Yoda.

It is a major difference!!!
STAR WARS are movies only(6 until now), while Star Trek is movies and series, which play on a starship. STAR WARS mianly plays on planets and focusses less on the battle part, and more on the characters...
I suggest you watch STAR WARS and then one episode of STAR TREK you will see it is not the same at all.
In addition to that, STAR TREK groups different people(Cap Kirk in the old series, then PIcard etc...) while STAR WARS is the story of Anakin Skywalker and his family...

I think that...
Star Trek fans:
-Tend to love sci-fi in general.
-Prefer story over special effects.
-Like to have their intellect stimulated by movies.
-Like their sci-fi as realistic as possible.
Star Wars fans:
-Tend to love SW above all sci-fi, and ST in particular.
-Prefer special effects over story.
-Like to be overwhelmed by movies.
-Like their sci-fi wild and unpredictable, even if it's over the top.
