I need a free website hosting site that supports ASP.NET (2.0) websites/applications.
I found one, but my site uses MS SQL, and that site won't allow that in their free package. I'm either looking for a site that does, or I have a different question:
I've created a site in Visual Studio 2005 using the template it came with to base my site on. It uses MS SQL; is there any way to remove that dependency, or use an access database, or something? Even if someone could tell me what the database does, it would be very helpful.

Thanks!

the best free site so far is www.brinkster.com they will allow you to upload databases, manage directores etc, and they have the dot.NET framework installed.
The best location would be the developer package.
It lists the following features:

15 mb web space
500 MB WEB TRAFFIC (limited to 16.7 mb web traffic per day)
1 brinkster.net e-mail account with 10 mb space
24/7/365 E-MAIL SUPPORT
Brinkster control panel

ASP 3.0
ASP.NET
xml 4.0
wap enabled
flash enabled
ssi - server side includes
MDAC 2.8
MS ACCESS
.NET MOBILE INTERNET TOOLKIT
ONLINE FILE MANAGER

1 brinkster.net E-MAIL ACCOUNT WITH 10MB SPACE
e-mail forwarding
BRINKSTER WEBMAIL
online E-MAIL ManaGeR
Auto-responders
Virus scan protection

WINDOWS 2003 IIS 6
HOt swappable hardware with redundant file storage
fully redundant connections to an oc48 backbone
NETWORK FIREWALL
24/7 NETWORK MONITORING
24/7 WEB SERVER MONITORING

24/7/365 SUPPORT BY E-MAIL
unlimited access to brinkster code bank

TRAFFIC STATS

Limitations of the Free Web Hosting Package

• Website Address = username.brinkster.net
• 16.7 MB Daily Traffic Limit
• 1 MB Max File Size
• No Offsite File Loading
• No Audio/Video Files
• 6 Month Login Requirement

I would recommend converting your database from sql 2005 to MS-Access 2003 SP2

you may of course, also run it locally if you are at least dealing with a dsl line; however, then you will need to have knowledge on firewalls - both hardware/software versions; port protocols and management; database management etc; being of course aware of the limitations but I/O.

These would be the best resultant.
In my opinion. You get what you pay for. Most hosting companies will arrange a more robust package with access for as little as 5$/USD per month. So although free is available, it is never the best solution.

If you are unsure as to how to communicate between MS-SQL and MS-Access i recommend that you read the tutorials on Microsoft.com or www.asp.net for instructions in these areas. It is easier then writing volumes of instructionals here.

Also, if you are using the free version of MS-SQL 2005 then you will simply not be able to convert between database structures; as i've stated previously... you get what you pay for; better to buy a license.

I could put up a site that doesn't need a database. Maybe you could try
http://openwebdesign.org/ it might help..

It looks like you need to do some learning for what you want or pay someone.

If you want a website you should spend 35 or 40 bucks a year..

database tells website how and what to run this website were on is running on a database..

relies upon some webhosts do not enable particular extensions like Hypertext Preprocessor or asp some can lock the information from getting used on account that its free so as that they might purely enable html. Databases do not comprise free. Awe, so freewebs doesn't enable Java see that is what you get for free, how do you imagine they receives a fee.

why do you think it should be free ?????????????

how impressive do you think it will be with an address like

www.boop.beep.bop.yourname.lobspot.com/funk.html

how about 3 or 4 popups on your site, and banners flying out of everywhere to cover your content . . .
