He doesn't do it all the time, but he seems to think it's funny when I stop him. Only serious answers please.

I think he's doing it because he's teething. he still doesn't have all four bottom front teeth. Only the tront two, so I think it's because of that. But when I stop him and tell him that it hurts and is bad, he laughs. I don't want to bite him back because it's teaching him that I can bite him, so why can't he bite me?

Barnes and Nobles sells a really cute book called "no biting" it's a baby book full of cute kids (I used it with my 1yr old class at a daycare). I would set them all down every day with frozen sponges with material sewn around them to they can't bite off chunks and choke and read the story. Then we would play a "what can you bite game" (it became a favorite and we would play a lot!) it goes like this

can you bite.....an apple? (show an apple)
YES!
Can you bite...your nookie (show pacifier)
YES!
Can you bite...a sponge?
YES!
Can you bite mommy?
NO! NO! NO! OWWIE!
Can you bite...Cracker?
YES!
Can you Bite sister?
NO NO NO! OWWIE!

YOu get the point, it was very over dramatic but they loved it and eventually they all got the point.

(please don't your child, talk about mixed signals!)

Well i think if u reward him when he stop biting then he will change the idea and think that it is not funny to bite and if he bite u should punish him but not hurt him just let him know that what he did is not funny

Ok, please don't think this is abuse. Bite him back. Not hard, just so he can feel it and do NOT leave a mark. I was 9 months pregnant with my second child and my daughter who was almost on bit me pretty hard. MY mom told me to bite her back. I didn't want to but my mom said that was the only way to break her. I know I didn't want her biting her baby sister when she was born. She's almost 2 1/2 and she hasn't bit since.

have him bite a jalapeño pepper right after
it will not hurt him yet remember not to bite a person
after a while he might pick up a taste for them.

Might sound mean...tell him it hurts and bite him back. Just hard enough so he gets the point.

The more people you get in your circle to show him that it is unacceptable to bite the better. Keep doing that and he will get the picture. Also, have dad instill that in him too. The key is persistence.

this stops them after the first two or three times: you bite him back hard enough for him to feel it
-or-
bite him if he doesn't stop enough to barely bring blood, my aunt had to do it, and her child doesn't bite any more

they will grow out of it. my little girl did that too and i did the bite back thing and she thought it was a game! do make sure that you let baby know that its not right and soon they will grow out of it hopefully before he seriously hurts someone.

spank him. despite what the screaming antispankers will say...spanking works and kids are not permanently damaged.

One bite=one spank

It is negative reinforcement. Keep applying it consistently. Even simple organisms react to positive and negative reinforcements...and babies do too...but it has to be consistent.

And yes, i have raised kids....and yes, they are fine and normal!
