bush has circumvented the purpose of the clean air act by allowing 20% of a coal plant to be spent on maintianance. This allows plants to rebuild and get around the clean air statutes passed by nixon.
Doctors and specialists have determined that asthma is caused in children who inhale these fumes and have complications for life.THEY estimate that coal fired plants will result in the near future in over 100,000 deaths long before the age at which these children would of lived had they not been exsposed to this hazard.
WE knew in the 70's of the relation between coal plants polution and lung disease and passed laws to fix the problem .
WHY has bush allowed laws that permit an obvious circumvention of the law .buy allowing 20% anually to be spent on maintainance in effect allowing the plant to rebuild with out meeting the clean air standards.source is former head of the epa who resigned under bush when she realized his plan to help out his million dollar fund raisers the coal plants .

No one can defend this position. It is unconscionable to bend the environmental laws. We need more laws not less. It is amazing how he panders to the wealthy.-- Mother Nature weeps--

Perhaps I shouldn't be responding to answers already given, but I feel the need to clear something up.

The President is the Chief of the Executive branch of the Untied States Government. The President, therefore, DOES enforce laws. In fact, that is almost exclusively what the President should be doing. Congress writes laws, the Courts interpret laws, and the Executive enforces laws.

GW had to support laws that permit weaker pollution controls because he owes his presidency to big business. Big business makes more money with the pollution controls relaxed.
