Theodore Roosevelt. The guy lead the Rough Riders into battle in 1898-1899. He established the National Park Service, preserving thousands of acres of land and wildlife. He got shot and lived, he was an all around badass.

He was a much better President than FDR. I don't understand why everyone says FDR pulled this country out of the Depression. It is a fact that WWII did that, not the welfare state that he established. It is his fault that the lower classes of this society are trapped in poverty. It is one thing to create government jobs, paid by taxpayers, in a crisis, but the New Deal should have had a time line or a transfer to privatization on it. Today, people would rather take money from the government than get off their asses. I'm not generalizing here either. I know that some people, especially single mothers, need assistance. That is great for awhile, but there has got be more scrutiny over who gets welfare. Thanks for the welfare state FDR, thanks a lot.

Teddy Roosevelt was the best President of the 20th century. He's the one I think I would trust the most. He was a reformist with a strong sense of justice, and whereas he did have a liberal view of executive authority, I think he was savvy in making decisions for the public good. He helped break up the trusts that were monopolizing the American economy, keeping healthy competition intact. He was also an excellent foreign policy leader - he even won the Noble Peace Prize.

George W. Bush would be at the absolute bottom of the list. He is a miserably ineffective leader. He appears unintelligent when speaking, he favors unconstitutional theocratic governmental actions, and he burns diplomatic bridges all over the world. I can't wait until he's out of office.

I'd say FDR, for all the reasons everyone else has already said. Clinton had the capacity to be a great president, but unfortunately got saddled with a Congress that hated him and his own appetites.

By the way, for everyone who keeps saying GW Bush - he isn't a 20th centrury president, you twits. It's the 21st century.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt led the Nation thorugh the worst Depression in American History, and then to victory in WW11. It is sad that he did not live to see the German and Japanese surrenders. A close second would be Thomas Woodrow Wilson, who was one of FDR's inspirations. Enough time has not passed to properly evaluate the role of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and the two Father and Son Bush Presidents.

I believe that FDR was the best presidennt of the 20th century. During the Depression, he wasn't able to fix things by himself, but he offered the US something that was missing - hope. When World War II came around he stood strong (figuratively - he was wheelchair bound) and kept the country's spirits strong.

The people at the time knew he was great too. They elected him four times!
