Peel off the stickers and re-stick them so all colors are together. Or try working with one color at a time.

I know how to do it, but the answer is a bit involved for posting here. There are several methods actually, but one is my personal favorite. I just can't describe it here, but the overview goes something like this:

1. Solve one side first. There are two ways to solve one side of a Rubik's Cube, and one is greatly preferred here. You want to solve the side with all the edges lined up as well. For example, if you solve the blue side, then you should be able to tip the cube so that, along the blue-orange edge, the 3 orange squares are all along that edge. Same for the 3 other blue-whatever edges. If you can do this, step back and look at the cube. 1/3 of it is solved!

2. Solve the opposite side. Again, if you choose blue first, on most cubes the opposite side is either white or green. You cannot move the centers so that the opposite side color changes. So look at the center pieces to figure out which color you are going for.

2a. Start by placing the corners into their correct positions. You will need to study what 3 colors are on each corner piece to do this. There is a way to set the corners into the correct positions. However, they may or may not be oriented correctly.

2b. Once the corners are in the right spots, they need to be aligned or rotated until their colors match the faces they belong to. So if you have a white-red-green corner, the three colors need to be rotated so that the three colors match the correct center pieces. Do this for all "4 bottom corners" (you solved the top ones already), and the cube will have Xs all around.

2c. Once you get the Xs, then you can fill in the edges. First, do the ones for the bottom side. This generally reuires that you knock out an edge from the top side and use the hole to fill in the bottom. You plug up the final two together. Once you've done this, you have no more than 4 pieces out of place!

3. Of the 4 resulting pieces, make sure that each edge piece is in its correct final place. If not, you can rotate 3 at a time until they are.

4. Finally the last 4 edges are in the correct spot, but pairs of them can still be flipped. There is a way to unflip them, but it will look to the casual onlooker that you are screwing up the entire cube. But at the end, it is really cool because the entire cube suddenly comes together and is SOLVED!

Here's how I outsmarted my know-it-all practical joke loving Uncle Jim. I popped the squares off and put them back together with all the cubes in the right place except for two of them. I then twisted the cube to mix it up, and gave it to Uncle Jim to solve. He worked and worked on that thing, and never was able to completely solve it. It seemed that two cubes never went into the right place. ;-)

When he wasn't looking, I took the cube into the bedroom, and popped it apart again, and put it together correctly. I then twisted it once. As I walked back into the living room, I twisted it back into place, and showed my Uncle that I solved it in almost no time at all.

He almost clobbered me when he found out that I had taken it apart. I just considered it revenge for all the practical jokes he had played on me over the years.

I miss my Uncle Jim.

And no, I never could solve the puzzle the right way. He managed to do it, once all the cubes were put back correctly.

You can pop the little squares off with a screwdriver and put them back on in the right order, without damaging anything.
