I think because EVERY WOMEN that I know has had a bad relationship with a male. Straight or not. I am straight and I have had at least 3 bad male relationships. So that is a lame excuse to give up men...but that works for them right?!!

because you're a stereotypical, close minded (probably young) person, and you haven't met MY lesbian friends. Women that are in their mid 30's and 40's that have NEVER been with a man nor do they want to. There are LOTS of lesbians that have never slept with a man. They DO exist...and define "relationship". A relationship is any kind of connection between two people. I'm sure YOU'VE had a bad "relationship" with a female at some point in your life. (Ever have a fight with your mom or sister or female best friend?) Did it make you straight? probably not.
You're straight because that's your preference. Men turn you on. You find them sexually as well as emotionally exciting, right? Same thing with lesbians and being attracted to women. Did you chose to be straight or did you just "know"? And are you ONLY straight because you have been influenced by your environment and possibly through Christian ideaology that that is the 'right' thing to do? If so, you CHOSE to listen to those ideas and beliefs, so would that mean you CHOSE to be straight?

Well, I will say I've had the same experience. Many of the lesbians I've known (well, okay, virtually all) have had some sort of abuse (emotional, physical, or otherwise) from men in their past.

However, this is just my experience, and others might have a different experience. To learn more, I would have rephrased the question a bit: "Lesbians: Have you had any bad relationships with men -- family or otherwise -- in your past, and how did you deal with them?"

It's a painful topic for many to deal with and -- regardless of how much a "choice" it might -- often does not feel like one. We'd probably do better just asking people to share their experiences and how emotionally they got to where they are today.

They may think that since men treated them badly, a woman won't. I have to give my experience. My cousin has 2 kids. She was beat by both their fathers. Her youngest son's father would let his friends rape her for drugs. She started dating a woman. Her and that woman were together 10 years. They also fought all the time. They spilt up and my cousin is back with a man....once again, she gets beat on. Another cousin of mine was molested by her father when she was younger. She never had intercourse with a man because of it. She's only been with women. Who knows the answer though. I just know what I see.

When it takes a man and a woman to have a baby, how can homosexuality be genetic or inborn? It's purely environmental.

in my openion lesbians are not born but by choice become one, may be they have mixed to much in their young life with females, or that boys have given them a tough time may be a step father or so they turn sometimes unknowing to another woman which leads to lesbianism

I have to agree with the others that we've all had bad relationships with men. It's part of learning about ourselves.
