Mr. Elway played with tiny WR's, no - name RB's (Davis came late in Elway's career), and poor to average O lineman.

My boy Elway did more with less. Before you tell me how great Montana was consider how many hall of famers were on his team. Montana won 4 SB's but with those teams Elway could have made football boring he would have won so much.

Note: Elway is the winningest QB in NFL history. Marino played one more year than Elway and still couldnt beat his record!

P.S. Marino had as much talent around him as did Montana.

to answer this question you have to analize all great qbs and skills
all montana, young, elaway, marino, unitas had great reading and acuracy
marino had a real fast realize of the football, probably the fastest
unitas had one of the strongest arms... bla bla bla
but please tell me if you seen a qb dive into tackes like elaway.

i definetly say elaway, they all could do everything, but no other qb showed leadership like elaway, remember how he dove in the superbowl, that is determination, and that is what a qb is all about, to sacrifice yourself when it really matters

I'll sell Elway as the best QB ever. 1st of all, you call Smith and McCaffery no-names. Both of them could eventually make it to Canton. And have you seen Denver's O-line. I could run for 1000 yards with those guys blocking for me. And dont say that its a different line than now b/c Nalen and Neil were on the line, plus they had Sclereth. Yes you make a good point about Montana, but I still think he's better than Elway.

Brett Favre's SB XXXI win was impressive. Talk about a guy who worked w/ less. Robert Brooks and Antonio Freeman were his top targets, and Dorsey Levens wasn't exactly Terrell Davis.
Favre might pass Marino's career TD mark this year and he's closing in on Elway's career wins too. Plus you've gotta throw in the fact that he's started every game for the Packers since 1992. Tell me that's not impressive. Favre's the man.

Marino was also amazing. Just think how the Fins would've been had they had Terrell Davis running for them. They would've been unstoppable.

oh yeah, whoever said Aikman was the best didn't look at his numbers. The only reason he won so many SBs is b/c he had Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith on the same team.

Yes there might have been some better QB's out there besides John Elway. But personally Elway was my favorite QB. He was the 4th quarter come from behind king in football. If you also noticed to why he really didn't win any Superbowl's before is because of Dan Reeves. Once Mike Shannahan came in as the head coach Elway won the Superbowl's. Reeves and Elway didn't have no love lost for each other. Shannahan and Elway had the connection, the relationship, and friendship to make it happen along with rest of the team.

John Elway was a great QB, but not the greatest. While he did carry the team to a few Super Bowls by himself, he never won a championship until he was surrounded by talent. He benefited from playing in an extremely weak conference early in his career. Picking the greatest QB to ever play is tricky because there are so many criteria to look at. If you look at championships won, you'd have to say Joe Montana. If you look at competitiveness, John Elway would be right up there. But if you are looking at specifically how they played the position, taking wins and losses out of the equation, Dan Marino was probably the best technical QB ever.

I deny it. Elway was a good quarterback, but I cannot say he was the best ever. There are so many that are as good as or better than Elway. I am a Dallas Cowboy fan, so I personally think Troy Aikman was one of the best, but I know that there are some who are better. Joe Montana was one in a million. Elway was a good, even great, QB, but cannot be considered the best ever.

Brett Favre. He is much better statistically than Elway. Elway has been to more super bowls but 2-3 isn't a great record and that 55-10 debacle against the 49ers is not something to brag about.

Elway was the best QB period! He went to more superbowls than any other QB. He was the best QB in brining his team to a victory after being down on the score. Marino, was ok. He could not run with the ball. Montana had Rice and other talented players.

Sorry Marino was better. Also with Montana yeah he was surrounded by talent but don't give me this BS that Elway would have won so much more with that team. Face it the opposing defense does have something to say.

A very good argument, but you could say the same thing about Marino, also. Elway didn't win the superbowl without Davis. Marino never had a Davis, so he never won one.

OJ McDuffie = Vance Johnson, products of good QB's

It is debateable for sure. You can't take away the fact the Elway owns what is probably the most coveted stat (as u mention) most career wins. Along with his two rings and Hall of Fame status, someone can try to deny this all day long but can they put real credentials on the table that prove otherwise? Hum....

Elway was good but there were too many great qb's to call him the greatest. Favre, Marino, Jim Kelly.... besides, I'm a chiefs fan... I don't give 2 shits about Gus Elway!!!!!!
