Rooney's lack of fitness and self control was one of eleven reasons - mind you - three did quite well - Lennon, Stirling and Hargreaves, the rest sucked

Not entirely. But if you are a Brit I am glad to see that you are one of the people that is searching for a blame within the team instead of blaming everyone else. I think there were many factors that resulted in England's dream to end. In no particular order.
1- Rooney's mental lapse
2- Bad coaching decisions
3- Enormous amoutn of pressure put on by fans. They have not won anything in 50 years, yet before every tournament they think England is the favorite to win.
4- No harmaony in the team. They did not play good football in a single game in the tournament.
5- Choking. Players clearly choked in pressure situations and this is not the first time.

no, i think that England lost because of Beckham's illness, and they had to take him out. Everyone knows that he is the best penalty kicker on the England team, and since he was taken out of the game, he was unable to support his team in the penalty kick shootout. Rooney's behaviour was also unnecessary, and probably played a part in the loss along with Beckham's illness.

I think thats one reason why they lost, and another reason why they lost is because Lennon, Stirling and Hargreaves were the only good players at that time and the rest didn't impress, espesially their key players. Beckham got injured and Rooney got taken out because of the red card, so thats another reason.

Well it certainly contibuted to the fact that they lost since Beckham was injured and Rooney got that red card. So England was down two really good players so it wasn't all his fault but he still should have controlled himself.
